Located in southeast Georgia, adjacent to Savannah, Kalapotapoo Farms is the home to a family of Russya Tsvetnaya Bolonka, also known as the Colored Bolognese. This charming toy dog was developed in utilitarian Russia as a low maintenance, highly social family pet. Designed to thrive in the communal apartments of Russia, the Bolonka is friendly to everyone, is not "yappy", and is highly intelligent. Unlike many toy breeds, the Bolonka is sturdily built, despite their diminutive size. Because shampoo and conditioners were luxuries not easily obtained, the Tsvetnaya Bolonka were bred for "wash and wear" coats. To reduce the need for grooming, the Bolonka come in a variety of colors. In fact, they come in every color EXCEPT WHITE. The disheveled look of the Bolonka coat is contrived, and like their cousins, the Havanese, this is part of their charm.

Russya Tsvetnaya Bolonka are relatively new to the US. They were not seen outside of Russia until the fall of the iron curtain. Only in recent years have relations with Russia allowed for the exportation of the breed to other countries. The Tsvetnaya Bolonka has gained popularity across Europe and Asia. Sweden, Germany, the Czech Republic, and other Baltic Countries have championed this breed and are working toward developing the line for FCI.

In the US, Patt McRae and Candace Mogavero imported the first Tsvetnaya Bolonka over a decade ago. These Bolonka imports have formed the foundation lines for many of the Tsvetnaya Bolonka found in the US. Patt and Candace have continued to work to promote the breed, and are the Founding and Operating Members of the North America Tsvetnaya Bolonka Club.

In November, 2009, I had the opportunity to visit Russia as a part of an Rehabilitation Ambassador's program. The rich history, unique architecture and delightful people made a great impression on me. Shortly after returning to the US, Boris, my first Bolonka Frr-Baby joined our family. Since that time, Mischa and Oksana (Suni) have joined us from Prague, Tatyana (Tia) has come to us from Patt, and Natasha and Illya have joined us from Idaho.

At Kalapotapoo Farms, our Frr-Babies are lovingly raised in the home. Our breeding program is designed to promote the integrity and standards of the breed. Our primary goal is to produce for your family a loving, gentle companion, who is healthy, intelligent, and who will be there to "get the party started" every day when you come home. Our Frr-babies are sold as pets, with the option to breed and show once the puppy has developed and conformation to standards has been established. Kalapotapoo Farms Frr-Babies' pet parents become an extended part of our network, and we love to hear about how our Frr-babies are coming along and share in their antics.

These Frr-babies do come with a CONSUMER WARNING: Tsvetnaya Bolonka Frr-Babies are like POTATO CHIPS... No one can HAVE JUST ONE!!
